Methodology and practice of audiovisual education for teachers and lecturers

Czech and foreign film education in connection with art education

The bachelor thesis deals with film education, shows its various concepts and explores film education in connection with art education. The thesis presents and compares different approaches of film education abroad and shows interesting Czech and foreign projects which differ in their methods and directly affect art education. Even though a subject of film education can already be applied as a separate subject in a school curriculum, this bachelor thesis focuses on the relationship and use of film education in the context of art education. Theoretical part of the bachelor thesis is dealing with the position of film education in the curriculum, the thesis explores the connection between film and art education and compares the term of image in film and art fields of study. The bachelor thesis focuses on a large amount of foreign initiatives that deal with film making and animation. Moreover, the thesis compares the situation of film education abroad and in the Czech republic, shows Czech projects that offer courses and workshops of film making. Methodological part introduces a program for students that follows an exhibition of Art Noveau in the Municipal House in Prague and deals with the production of animations. Didactics of Film and Audiovisual Education

The presented dissertation addresses main issues of film education. It deals with the fact, that film has become a subject of education in the Czech Republic and other European countries in the last years. Thus, it has also had its place in the Czech Framework Education Programme for elementary and grammar schools (gymnasia) since 2010, as Film and Audiovisual Education, a complementary subject of the Art and Culture educational area. This dissertation inserts this actuality into the historical context and reflects on the situation, that calls for a reconsideration of curricular matters of both artistic and media area: the importance of film as an artistic form, that has been an irreplaceable component of human culture for more than hundred years, as well as the omnipresence of the audiovisual medium in the society. The dissertation treats complex educational goals of Film and Audiovisual Education: it approaches the film education as an opportunity to develop so called film literacy and illuminates its meaning; it pursues the development of important personal traits of the pupils that the film teaching can bring. Film Education as a part of Basic Art Education

Due to the presence of the optional Film/audiovisual education subject in the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education and Secondary General Education, the interest in film and audiovisual education in the Czech Republic has been so far focused on primary schools and grammar schools. No attention has been paid to primary art schools, where filmmaking practices have been continuously expanding for many years, especially during art lessons. The primary aim of this thesis is to chart the issue, to examine the reality of primary art schools in detail, to uncover the motivation of teachers to teach the filmmaking and to observe potential connections between personal experience of a viewer and teaching. Considering the lack of secondary sources the author of this thesis approached the research using a sociological methodology. The three-step-research involved a quantitative study in a form of a questionnaire survey, an additional questionnaire with open-ended questions and personal interviews with selected respondents. Title: Imagination in Art Summary: This thesis deals with the concept of imagination in terms of psychological and philosophical. Regarded the function of imagination in the development of the child's personality in relation to film and audiovisual production. It represents the relationship of imagination and the film and audiovisual works on selected examples from the period of experimental film and animation, surrealist and avant-garde work to video art.
